Essentially, floor hardeners are nothing but a mixture of components, which help in accentuating the tensile strength of a concrete floor. If you’re thinking, why something as hard as concrete would need any kind of hardening agent, whatsoever, then you might be wrong. While we all know that concrete is hard, repeated and rough use of concrete floors might result in untimely wearing off that not only leads to a shabby look but also reduces the overall functionality of the floors. More often than not, concrete comprises of calcium carbonate that is present in the form of free particles and often results in the formation of pores. Needless to mention, these pores reduce the overall strength as well as the durability of the floor. While this deterioration is negligible in most cases, it might have drastic repercussions on floors with heavy usage. It is for this very reason that various hardening agents are being used. Most of these hardening agents when dissolved in water go on to react with the free lime particles to form a gel-like substance, otherwise known as the C-S-H gel. This gel helps in filling up the unwanted pores in the floor thus making it resilient to any kind of wear and tear.

There are essentially three types of hardeners that have proven to be the most effective. These are listed below-

  1. Colloidal Silica-Based Densifying Agent

Highly reactive in nature, this agent is known to work in as little as 2 minutes. Extremely pocket-friendly, this agent goes deep into the floor surface thus ensuring visible and lasting results.

  1. Lithium Based Floor Hardener

Ideally formulated to be used in larger set-ups such as schools, malls, restaurants etc. this type of hardening agent is known to effectively reduce the porosity of the floor thus ensuring higher durability.

  1. 3D Hybrid Silicate Densifier

This floor hardenercomprises of three distinct densifiers that are combined together to ensure the maximum penetration. Whether it may be a problematic region of the floor or the overall hardness of the concrete, this agent is known to offer enhanced abrasion resistance. This agent is highly advisable for exposed concrete as well as for floors with colored cement.
